Standard 1 - Information and understanding:
    PreK-1
    • Read from informational texts with repetitive language and simple illustrations, and begin to collect data, facts and ideas (all titles)
    • Identify rhyming words (all titles except Bear Facts and Save a Tree for Me)
    • Read aloud with expression and fluency (all titles)
    • Listen for data, facts and ideas from a nonfiction text (all titles)
    • Use appropriate visual aids (puppets, toys) to illustrate a word or concept when speaking to share information (all titles)
    Grades 2-4
    • Listen for data, facts, and ideas in oral readings (all titles)
    • Speak to share data, facts and ideas in read-aloud situations (all titles)

Standard 2 - Literary response and expression:
    PreK-1
    • Read books with limited text, repetitive language and simple illustrations (all titles)
    • Distinguish between what is real and what is imaginary (Busy Bees, Gravity, Munch,Munch,Munch)
    • Dramatize stories using puppets, toys, and other props (all titles)
    • Read aloud with expression and fluency (all titles)
    • Write original songs in order to interpret and respond to imaginative texts (create piggyback lyrics with support using Bear Facts)
    • Speak (sing) to present interpretations and responses to imaginative texts through role play/ creative dramatics/ singing (all titles)
    Grades 2-4
    • Read and view imaginative texts such as songs (all titles)
    • Engage in purposeful oral reading in small and large groups (all titles)
    • Write original imaginative texts such as songs (apply content knowledge within the structure of Bear Facts resulting in original text)
    • Use rhythm and rhyme to create songs (when creating piggyback lyrics using Bear Facts)
    • Present original works such as poems and songs to classmates (when sharing piggyback lyrics using Bear Facts)
    • Speak loudly enough to be heard by the audience

Standard 3 - Critical analysis and evaluation:
    PreK-1
    • Identify what they know, want to know and have learned (KWL) about a topic through reading, writing and speaking (all titles)
    • Predict what could happen next (Bear Facts, Frog on a Log, Gravity, Munch,Munch,Munch, The Predator, What Hatches from an Egg?)
    • Distinguish between real and imaginary (Busy Bees, Gravity, Munch,Munch,Munch)
    • Listen for differences in opinions and viewpoints in read-aloud situations (B-B-B-Bats)
    Grades 2-4
    • Evaluate the content by identifying whether characters are realistic (Busy Bees, Gravity, Munch,Munch,Munch)
    • Use effective vocabulary in expository writing (when creating piggyback lyrics using Bear Facts)
    • Use appropriate eye contact and gestures in presentations (all titles)

Standard 4 - Social interaction:
    PreK-1
    • Participate in small or large group singing in order to interact with classmates and adults in the classroom and school environment (all titles)
    Grades 2-4
    • Develop an idea within a brief text (when creating piggyback lyrics using Bear Facts)
